About Sensory Balancing(SB)

Why are some of us allergic to dust while others are sensitive to pollen? Why do some kids react to loud sounds as though someone has turned on the volume 10X? Why do some break out in eczema after every stressful event? Why do some people have sleep issues that no supplement is able to resolve? What is in common with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and the other issues described above?

Our Brain is fascinating, and the more patients I see, the more I realize that we can compare it to a powerful and advanced computer. Like any other computer, it might have some “errors” in its system. That is a good sign! It means that we can “reprogram” or “fix” these errors.

An “error” can be food related, but it can also come from how our brain processes certain emotions, or communicates with certain hormones. With Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) there are usually a few “errors” happening at the same time, causing your child to experience the information coming from the senses differently than others experience them. So, if you are sitting in a restaurant enjoying a birthday while the staff sing at your table and your sensory child is the only one covering his ears and freaking out, it is because he is hearing things louder than the rest of the family. His reaction can originate from him experiencing stress as though it is magnified a few times. What appears to be an overreaction is actually proportional to what he is experiences, as this is how his brain processes the sound.

Sensory Balancing (SB) is about diagnosing these “errors” and “fixing” them so that our brain would recognize things for what they actually are – pollen is just pollen and not a “bully”, stress hormones should not be come with a magnifying glass, and areas in the brain that are associated with hearing can process without amplifiers, and so on.

The diagnosis is done by using kinesiology which is a form of muscle testing.

The treatment involves acupuncture points and can be done with or without needles. Currently all sessions are for Sensory Balancing Coaching and do not include Acupuncture. Once I complete my Texas Acupuncture license I will be offering Acupuncture for those who prefer, otherwise I will continue with Sensory Balancing coaching sessions.

Is acupuncture more effective than other techniques?
Absolutely not!
The best treatment is the one our body responds best to. If fear of needles is present, then using other techniques such as healing forks, pediatric tuina or acupressure would work much better. Some kids love needles from the start, some gradually grow curious about trying needles and end up loving it, and others just don’t like needles and that is perfectly ok.

How did I start working with Sensory Balancing?
My own kids suffered from conditions that are relatively easy to cure using acupuncture and herbs. However, nothing seemed to work. While seeking new tools I found Sensory Balancing, and quickly realized how helpful it is for many of my patients.
